Carly woke up to loud voices outside her bedroom window. She rubbed her eyes sleepily, and as she pulled back the curtain blinked at the sight of twenty different camera flashes going off in unison.
She pulled the curtain closed again.
"Ma, wat gaan an?" (Mom, what's going on?)
Her mother appeared in the doorway, shaking her head. "I'd like to ask you the same question. They've been there all morning."
School was just as bad. Wherever Carly went, whether it was to class or to the tuck shop, a photographer was not far behind.
"This is sooo exciting," whispered Riana in class. Crystal seemed furious that all the attention was placed on Carly. She barely said a word all day, although she made a point of staying within camera range.
By the end of the day Carly and Riana had taken to wearing their sunglasses indoors to protect their eyes from the flashing lights.
"I wonder if we're going to be in Heat magazine," said Riana with a delighted smile.
"This is insane," replied Carly.
"I think its romantic, like the Royal Wedding right here in Cape Town."
"Shh. Keep your voice down or we'll land up on the front page."
QUESTION: How would you feel if the paparazzi started following you around all day?
